Model Answer:

Thank you very much for this great topic. I will tell you about a game I enjoy playing so much, which is perhaps a favourite of many young people in my town.

Some calls it “pool” while others call it “snooker”, depending on of course where one lives. And then there is another group of people like me who prefer to call it “billiards”. Having its origin in the medieval Europe, this cue sport involves a white cue ball in order to hit another 15 balls (all balls are round in shape made of plastic with a diameter of about 2.25 inches), a cue stick (a wooden stick anywhere between 50 to 60 inches long and about 20 ounces in weight) and a billiards table (with a dimension of 5 feet by 4 feet, rectangular in size with 4 pockets at its 4 corners).

Having played billiards with some real experts in the past almost on a regular basis (yes…one could say that I was really good at it) now I play this game mostly with my friends at their requests in order to teach them by going either to a restaurant or a club full of billiards tables. Learning to play billiards can be frustrating in the beginning, but once someone understands “the arts and science” of playing this game, it is easy to get hooked to it.

I really enjoy shooting the billiards balls one after another into the pockets of a billiards table while sometimes becoming “addicted” to it. In fact, in my opinion, very few games offer the fun and conveniences of playing this game. The best thing about this game is that I can play it any time of the day/night while enjoying a cup of cappuccino or cold drink with my friends and family members by staying indoors. I mostly play it with my friends and sometimes friends of friends. However, my younger brother often invites me to play it at home. Outside the home, I play it in different sports zones, but a nearby billiard cafe called ‘Sky Pool Cafe’ is the place where I play it most of the time.

This cue sport luckily demands much less athletic ability to succeed. All you need to have is a sharp mind, a thoughtful game plan and then, of course, enough strength to send the balls into the table holes. So, when I, being an average person in size and shape, manage to beat a person of six plus feet tall and almost double of my weight, I know that I can get the “satisfaction of considering” myself a ‘pro”.
