Writing Task 1 Sample

Letter Sample #102 – Letter to the landlord for some renovation works

GT Writing Task 1 (Letter Writing) Sample # 102

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

You and your family have recently moved into a new house in an English-speaking country. However, you feel that the kitchen and one of the bathrooms in the house need some renovation works.

Write a letter to your landlord.

In your letter,

  • introduce yourself and say why you are writing
  • explain what is wrong with the kitchen and the bathroom
  • say what action you would like the landlord to take

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear ……………,

Model Answer:

Dear Mr Richard,

Hope this letter finds you in good health and spirit. My name is Daniel, and I have just moved into your house which I rented from you about a couple of weeks ago. I like the house so far since there is no major issue with it and it is beautiful. However, I feel that the kitchen and one of the bathrooms could use some renovation works.

Talking about the bathroom, one of its faucets doesn’t seem to tighten properly, probably because it has been used for a long time. Besides, it also seems to have a slow drain system. And as far as the kitchen is concerned, its paint seems to have faded away a little. Besides, there are some scratches on some of its floor tiles as well which doesn’t go very well with the colour of your tiles.

Therefore, I would really appreciate it if you please hire some professionals to replace the poorly functioning faucet with a new one while also painting your kitchen wall anew at the same time at your earliest convenience. It would also be great if you could change the floor tiles, which have some scratches on them, on the kitchen floor.

Yours sincerely,

Daniel Pedro
