Model Answer:

In today’s society, it is often said and believed that the influence of celebrities has grown significantly, and their prominence is based on superficial attributes rather than actual accomplishments. I agree with this viewpoint and also think that it can have detrimental effects on the younger generation.

Celebrities often portray an unrealistic and distorted image of success, emphasising material possessions and lavish lifestyles. This is particularly true in this era of modern technology where being a celebrity is easier than ever before. This can create a misguided perception among young people that wealth and fame are the ultimate indicators of achievement. For instance, the obsession with celebrity culture can lead young individuals to pursue superficial goals rather than focusing on personal growth or meaningful contributions to society. This is evident when young people idolize reality TV stars who have gained fame for their appearances rather than for their skills or talents.

When celebrities are primarily recognized for their external attributes, the emphasis on hard work, dedication, and talent diminishes. This sends a negative message to young people, suggesting that success can be achieved solely through looks or financial means, rather than through genuine skill and effort. An example of this is when young individuals aspire to become social media influencers, where their value is often determined by the number of followers they have rather than their actual abilities or achievements.

In conclusion, the prevailing fame and recognition of celebrities based on their glamour and assets rather than their accomplishments indeed sets a bad example for young people. This phenomenon can result in distorted perceptions of success, a lack of emphasis on hard work and talent, and detrimental effects on youngsters.
