GT Writing Task 1 (Letter Writing) Sample # 163
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
You cannot go to a company where you got an offer. Write a letter to the HR supervisor to –
- explain the reason why you decline the offer
- express your gratitude
- explain why you like your current job very much
Write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Model Answer:
Dear Sir or Madam,
First of all, I would like to thank you and express my gratitude for offering me a position at your company. It is indeed quite amazing that a great company like yours has found me out, through the help of some employment agency, and taken the time to reach out to me and finally offer me a job.
However, as much as I like the offer, the truth is that I will not be able to work for your company because I do not think that I will have much to learn in the position that you are offering me. After all, I am more of a technical person, aiming for the position of a Chief Technical Officer at a large technology company, instead of becoming a Project Manager at the IT (information technology) department of a large and famous banking institution.
Besides, I like my current job a lot because it allows me to work at my own pace, most of the time. Apart from this particular flexibility, I can also have enough time to spend with my family, especially, because I do not really have to spend much time commuting back and forth from my job.
I would like to show my gratitude once again.
Yours faithfully,
Mitch Mayer
