You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

You and your friends went to a nearby restaurant. You were disappointed with the service and wish to complain to the manager.

Write a letter to the manager of the restaurant. In your letter:

  • explain why you were at the restaurant
  • describe the problems
  • write about the action you want the manager to take

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Model Answer:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Last week, I visited your famous restaurant to enjoy a “weekly special” with two of my friends. But the experience was not pleasant at all and I am hoping you will improve your service in order to retain the reputation and customers you have.

Last Sunday, I waited in your restaurant for almost 20 minutes just to place an order for our food. As if that was not enough to make us feel “unwelcome” at the expense of our valuable time, we had to wait another 30 minutes to be served with food. Interestingly, I found out that your waiters were more interested in serving the customers who wanted to “take out” their foods instead of customers who wanted to eat inside your restaurant. Besides, we felt like you were short on your staffs on that day when you were supposed to be really busy.

In view of the problems, I mentioned above, I would like to request you to please ask your waiters to manage their times more wisely and fairly so that everybody can receive their services on time. Besides, you would also be well advised to add more staffs and waiters to your available list of employees during a time when you are having a “weekly special” or any other “special” for that matter.

Yours faithfully,

Rudy Washington
