Letter Sample #101 – You wish to complain to the supermarket

GT Writing Task 1 (Letter Writing) Sample # 101

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

You were hurt in a minor accident inside a supermarket, and you wish to complain to the supermarket.

Write a letter to the manager of the supermarket. In your letter,

  • say who are you
  • give details about the accident
  • suggest how the supermarket could prevent similar accidents

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Dear Sir or Madam,

I reckon that you would not exactly like to read this kind of letter, but I am left with no other choice but to write it since it involves the safety of your customers.

Anyway, I have been a regular customer of your supermarket for the last few years, and I never had such issues before. But, recently, when I visited your supermarket about a few days ago, I slipped on the floor and hit the shelves at one of its aisles. Later on, I found out that I slipped because the floor of your supermarket was just mopped, and it was still wet. To be honest, I did not quite expect this kind of carelessness on the part of your staff.

Nevertheless, I like to believe that it was a one-off incident, and you are really sincere about the safety of your customers. But, I guess that you could help your customers avoid such accident if you please care to put a warning sign, which says that the floor is wet, on the floor of your supermarket after mopping or cleaning it with water.

I hope you will take necessary safety measures as soon as possible.
