Model Answer:

Many nations give high priority to educating the young generation. Yet a considerable number of educationalists opine that government should put more emphasis on the education of illiterate adults. This essay completely agrees with the statement that the government ought to invest more money in adult education because it curbs economic exploitation and builds confidence among those adults.

The wealthy people in many countries like India are getting wealthier and the poor are getting poorer. The main reason for this economic equality is illiteracy. People who are illiterate are led to indulge in menial work. They are poorly paid workers and continue to live as poor for the rest of their life. And adult education has proved to be a silver bullet for such people. Developing literacy and numeracy skills gives them a better ability to reach their full potential. Seeking education, in turn, makes individuals more aware of their rights and the just wages they ought to be paid which helps them end the ongoing exploitation against them. For example, empirical evidence is mounting that adult education prohibits the economic exploitation of poor people.

Similarly, education is a confidence booster. Learning, in fact, empowers people. It gives them the opportunity to discover the things they are good at and expand their skill portfolio, therefore boosting their self-esteem and offering them a sense of pride in their achievement. Besides, learning can enable individuals to make well-informed decisions, providing them with a better idea of what to do with life and developing a sense of fulfilment. Various studies carried out in adult education programmes have shown that adult learning tends to increase confidence. It is therefore essential that government should allocate more budget to educate these people so that they can bolster their confidence.

In conclusion, adult education programmes help stop economic exploitation and improve confidence among people who receive them. Therefore, the government should release more funds to educate illiterate adults.
