Model Answer:

From time immemorial, art has been playing a vital role in enriching human civilization in every corner of the world. Regrettably, art museum attendance is declining in many nations. This essay will expound the root cause of this trend, and then come up with possible solutions to this issue.

Art gallery attendance has plummeted down due to several factors. First and foremost reason is the proliferation of other options. To put it another way, the bricks-and-mortar business has to compete with the massiveness of visual data available online. There are ridiculously convenient alternative options: gallery websites, selling platforms, Instagram, and online art fair to name but a few examples. Secondly, another compelling reason is that these art galleries have long been stodgy and dull, and too traditionally educative. In fact, they cannot compete with the current vogue, and thereby dropping visitors.

However, respective authorities should renew their policy so as to fight plummeting visitors. Art museums ought to encourage people to get social. In simple words, art galleries can allow visitors to take photographs of exhibits and provide them with an opportunity to share what they saw with family and friends. In turn, these photographs will promote art galleries as wonderful places to be and make social site browsers wonder what the exhibition would look like in person. For example, The Museum of Fine Arts Pakistan achieved Facebook “cult status”, as visitors poured into the exhibits to take photographs with the various displays. In addition, these institutions should host innovative events like ‘Happy Hour’ with an Artist organized at regular intervals by the Punjab Museum of Sculpture, throughout the year. In consequence, these events will build a base of regular visitors.

To conclude, the increase of alternatives, as well as the traditional view of providing education by art galleries are the prime causes of the decline in attendance. However, visitor experience can be improved if galleries develop strategies such as allowing social site activities, organizing unique events and so on, to address the trend.
