GT Writing Task 1 (Letter Writing) Sample # 53
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
Last month you had a holiday overseas where you stayed with some friends. They have just sent you some photos of your holiday.
Write a letter to your friends. In your letter:
- thank them for the photos and for the holiday
- explain why you didn’t write earlier
- invite them to come and stay with you
Write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write your own address.
Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Peter and Isabella,
Hope you guys are doing great. I am writing to thank you for the photos and an unforgettable trip. I really enjoyed my time with you and will never forget the fabulous time I had with both of you.
I can not thank you enough for showing me your city, your selection of landmarks and interesting places, mouth-watering food and thrilling activities. You made my holiday so remarkable and I still cherish the memory. Earlier today I downloaded all the photos you sent to me; the quality of the pictures is spectacular, you both have an incredible talent for taking photos.
I wanted to write earlier, however, I had been struggling to regain momentum at work. It was hard to get back to my regular routine after the vacation. I wish I had been able to spend more time with you!
Christmas vacation is approaching. Let me invite you to my place so that we may relish those moments by spending some quality time together. I would be delighted to have you both at my house during the vacation.
I really am looking forward to having you guys with me.
