GT Writing Task 1 (Letter Writing) Sample # 124
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
A colleague recently gave you a book about making great presentations. This book has helped you a lot to prepare and make a presentation at your office.
Write a letter to the colleague who gave you the book. In your letter,
- describe the presentation you made
- say how the book that your colleague gave helped you
- express your gratitude for his/her help
Write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
I am writing this letter to let you know how grateful I really am to you because of lending me the book titled “Effective Presentations” which helped me a big time in preparing my presentation last week.
As you may already know, I am not comfortable with public speaking. Moreover, making any kind of presentation in front of anybody makes me nervous. And, I was even more fearful about the presentation of last week because it was essentially a “bread and butter” issue for me. In other words, my promotion and/or salary raise was very much dependent on this performance.
The presentation was about preparing for and pitching a sales plan to some high-end clients as my higher management was considering me for a senior sales manager’s role in the near future, and needless to say, the book, you lent me last month, helped me immensely in organizing my thoughts and delivering them in front of an informed audience in a rather simple but effective manner. Besides, the book also taught me how to remain calm when facing questions from the audience.
So, once again, many thanks to you. I am so grateful to you that you have selected this book and shared it with me at a time when I needed it the most. I owe you for that.
