You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

Recently you bought a kitchen appliance from a brand shop. It did not work properly within the first two days of its purchase. The shop took it back, and said they would repair it within two days. You have waited two weeks, and still, it is not ready.

Write a letter to the shop to complain about it. In your letter, 

  • explain what has happened
  • mention how you feel about it
  • ask them to repair the kitchen appliance soon or supply you with a new one

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Model Answer 1:

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am Torry Manson writing this letter to complain about a brand new rice cooker that I purchased from your store a couple of weeks ago. I hope you would resolve the issue quickly by either replacing the product or arranging to repair it in a couple of days.

With regard to the rice cooker, I purchased it on 17th April from your store, and the invoice number is Bk4201A4. It is made by the “Panasonic” brand, and it comes with a one-year standard warranty. The issue with the rice cooker is that within one day of using this rice cooker, it started malfunctioning. The rice that I cooked did not boil properly even after following the instruction. The timer also goes off sometimes making it impossible to use it for cooking. I took the product to your store and I was promised that it is covered by warranty and that I will get it repaired in two days or get a new one. However, after two weeks of that, I am still waiting for the product to be repaired.

I was very excited about having this branded rice cooker from your store but very disappointed with the product quality and the after-sale service that I was offered.

Under the circumstances, I would like you to look at the matter and have it repaired in the next three to four days or replace it with a new one.

I am writing this letter to inform you that I am not only disappointed with the gas cooker that I purchased from your shop but also very frustrated with your “after sales” service. Let me please explain to you what really happened.

I purchased a gas cooker from your shop a week ago, but, unfortunately, I had to return it to your store because it stopped working properly within only the first two days of being purchased. While returning it for the “after sales” service to your shop, I was told that my oven would get fixed within the next two days. But, two weeks have already passed, and yet no sign of getting it fixed. What is even more frustrating is that the person in charge never shows the courtesy to call and inform me about the work progress. Instead, it is always me who has to call you guys and learn about the repair status of my oven!

At this point, I am not even sure if you really can fix my kitchen appliance. So, unless you repair the oven in the next two days, you will have to replace it with a new one.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to express my disappointment regarding my recent purchase of a blender from your shop. I purchased the appliance just two weeks ago, and within the first two days or so of its use, it malfunctioned. I immediately contacted your shop and arranged to have the appliance returned for repair.

I was informed that the repair would be completed within two days, however, it has now been more than two weeks, and the appliance has yet to be returned to me. I have attempted to contact the shop multiple times to inquire about the status of the repair but have received little information.

I am extremely dissatisfied with the service I have received and the lack of communication regarding the repair. This delay has caused me significant inconvenience, as I am now without a functioning blender for an extended period of time.

I would like to request that the repair be made as soon as possible or, if that is not possible, that I receive a new appliance. I would appreciate a timely response to this matter.
