Letter Sample #128 – Some facilities for shoppers could be improved

GT Writing Task 1 (Letter Writing) Sample # 128

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

You normally go shopping in the area where you live. However, you think some of the facilities for shoppers could be improved.

Write a letter to your local newspaper. In your letter,

  • say in general what you like about shopping in your area
  • say what is wrong with the facilities
  • suggest how they can be improved

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Model Answer:

Dear Sir or Madam,

I read your newspaper as often as I can since it offers great insight into the local news and affairs of our local community. And that is exactly why I, on behalf of our Jefferson community, am writing to you to help us make our local city authority aware of the problems in our local shopping areas by publishing an editorial in your newspaper.

Of course, it is not like everything is bad when it comes to standard facilities and amenities, provided by our local shopping area since most of them offer great prices, customer services and convenient shopping hours. But, when it comes to providing access to handicapped people with “limited mobility”, I am afraid that very few shopping areas have any wheelchair ramps to make their life easy. Besides, many of the shopping centres do not have proper public water drinking facilities.

Therefore, I want to request our local authority, through your newspaper, to make rules, and also provide extra budget if necessary, so that shopping centres in our area make extra efforts to make them easily accessible to handicapped people while also providing more facilities for public drinking.

Thank you in advance.

Yours faithfully,

John Kyle
