Letter Sample #127 – Letter to the bank about the missing card

GT Writing Task 1 (Letter Writing) Sample # 127

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

You have received a letter from your bank, asking you to acknowledge receipt of a new bank card. However, the card was missing from the envelope.

Write a letter to the bank’s head office. In your letter,

  • explain why you are writing
  • express concern about the missing card
  • ask them what they intend to do

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Model Answer:

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter in response to a request from your bank in which you have asked me to acknowledge the receipt of a new bank card. In fact, I was also about to write a letter to you to let you know that the envelope, I received, contained all kinds of documents and papers except, of course, the bank card – the item that actually matters the most.

In reality, I have not received any bank card from you, and therefore, no question arises about acknowledging the receipt unless, of course, you arrange a new bank card for me in the meantime.

In this situation, I am concerned about my missing bank card lest it ends up being misused by the wrong person. And should that indeed happen, my finance, bank account and other important personal information will be compromised!

Needless to say, this is a scary scenario, to say the least. Therefore, I would like to know what your bank authority is going to do either to retrieve the lost card while also stopping any attempt to do any kind of unauthorized transaction with my account.

Hope to hear from you at your convenience.

Yours faithfully,

Ema Thomas
