Model Answer 1:
The escalating average weight and declining health and fitness levels in many countries present pressing concerns. This essay aims to explore the causes of these problems and propose potential measures to address them.

One prominent cause of the increasing weight and declining health is the sedentary lifestyle prevalent in modern society. With advancements in technology, many individuals spend extended periods engaged in sedentary activities such as working at desk jobs, watching television, or using electronic devices. This lack of physical activity contributes to weight gain and adversely affects overall health. For example, the popularity of video games and streaming services has led to reduced physical activity among children and adults, resulting in weight gain and a higher risk of obesity-related health issues.

Another contributing factor is the availability of processed and unhealthy food options. Fast food chains, sugary beverages, and convenience snacks have become increasingly accessible and affordable, leading to a rise in unhealthy eating habits. The convenience and marketing tactics employed by these industries make it difficult for individuals to make healthier food choices. For instance, the prevalence of fast-food restaurants in urban areas has made it convenient for people to rely on calorie-dense, nutrient-poor meals, contributing to weight gain and health problems.

To address these issues, various measures can be implemented. Firstly, promoting physical activity and creating opportunities for exercise should be prioritized. Schools and workplaces can incorporate physical activity breaks, provide access to fitness facilities, and encourage active transportation methods such as walking or cycling. Additionally, public spaces can be designed to promote recreational activities and sports facilities, making it easier for individuals to engage in regular exercise.

Secondly, initiatives aimed at improving nutrition and promoting healthier food choices are essential. Governments can implement policies to regulate the food industry, such as introducing stricter guidelines for food labelling and advertising, implementing taxes on unhealthy food products, and promoting the availability of affordable fresh produce. Education on nutrition and healthy cooking practices should be integrated into school curricula to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills to make healthier dietary choices.

In conclusion, the rising average weight and declining health in certain countries stem from sedentary lifestyles and the availability of unhealthy food options. By implementing comprehensive strategies, individuals can be empowered to lead healthier lives and reverse negative health trends.

Model Answer 2:
In many parts of the world, people are getting overweight and their fitness level is deteriorating rapidly. I strongly believe that the problem is caused by unhealthy food habits, genetic problems and the modern lifestyle where physical activity is almost absent. A healthy and active lifestyle and salutary food habits could be the silver bullet to these problems.

Genetics and modern lifestyle are to be blamed for most obesity cases. Many people are susceptible to obesity due to their genetics. Put simply, weight gain has a robust genetic component. A growing number of researches have shown that children of obese parents tend to become fat than their counterparts. Similarly, modern lifestyles, such as eating habits or lack of physical labour, is also a major contributor to the obesity epidemic. Modern society enjoys eating junk food so much while scientific tests reveal that these fast food contain a substantial amount of fat and carbohydrates, which can result in obesity. Apart from it, the modern lifestyle, which is mostly sedentary in nature, also causes overweight – which over the years becomes a genetic issue.

However, the problem can be solved through a healthy lifestyle: healthy eating habits, physical activity and so on. First of all, healthy eating habit plays a key role to combat overweight. So people should emphasize eating whole grains, vegetables, fruits and fat-free milk and dairy products. Healthy eating also includes lean meats, eggs, fish, nuts, and beans to name but a few. Also, people ought to avoid a diet which is high in cholesterol, trans fats, saturated fats and added sugar. Most importantly, they should drink more water instead of sugary beverages. Secondly, getting adequate physical activity also plays a prominent part in weight management. For example, people should engage in physical activity, even moderately, for at least 10 hours a day.

To conclude, to solve the riddle of gaining weight and deteriorating health, of which the causes are junk food, genetic issues and lack of physical activities, a healthy lifestyle such as good eating habits, exercise and so forth, is necessary.
