Despite a large number of gyms, sports centres and parks, a sedentary lifestyle is gaining popularity in the contemporary world.
Why is so? What problems are associated with this?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Even though a substantial number of sports and outdoor facilities has been improved throughout the world, the sedentary lifestyle has reached an epic proportion in contemporary society. The phenomenon depends on certain factors and this leads to many issues associated with health.
To commence with, many individuals lead inactive lifestyles owing to their sedentary job nature, indoor and digital leisure activities and, often, due to the lack of opportunity. Many contemporary occupations are sedentary in nature involving no vigorous physical activity. To illustrate, white-collar employees work long hours that involve sitting at a desk in front of a computer screen. In addition to this, people also tend to surf the internet, watch TV, or play computer games as leisure pursuits. In simple words, many a time, they are utterly exhausted after office, and therefore engage in motionless activities like reading, watching TV, listening to music, or using a smartphone. Besides, with the hectic pace of modern life, it is hard for many to find sufficient time for exercise. But most importantly, the lack of willpower and determination prevents many from leading an active life.
A sedentary lifestyle involves very little physical activities with very low energy expenditure and thereby causes several severe health problems including reduced metabolism. In consequence, it can cause obesity contributing to chronic diseases, such as heart disease, cardiac arrest, and diabetes to name but a few examples. In addition, as the duration of screen time increases, it is highly likely that the spine meets with pressure, which will, in turn, increase the probability of distort natural curve. As a result, various spinal issues, including the slipped disc, stem from this bad posture.
To conclude, the sedentary lifestyle poses a real risk of various health complications. Therefore, we should incorporate adequate physical activities into our daily routine, and our determination can make a big difference.
