Some people firmly believe that the best approach to learn about business is to study it at a college or university. Whereas others put forward that there are other better methods to learn about business. The following essay takes a look at both views and then comes to a reasonable conclusion.
To commence with, business as a field of study seems highly practical in nature. The knowledge one needs is how to put ideas into action to add or create value to a service or product so as to yield a profit. However, many a time, brilliant ideas cannot wait, and spending four years in university may result in missed opportunities. Taso Du Val, CEO and founder of global tech industry network “Toptal”, is a shining example of a successful businessman without earning a university degree in business. He started pursuing his passion for entrepreneurship at a young age skipping college.
Having said that, there are many bona fide reasons why people should study a university course so as to learn about business. First and foremost, a university course provides students with the skill sets needed for today’s fast-paced business world. For example, business programs place considerable emphasis on teaching pupils the ability to solve issues in an innovative way, think critically, and manage time logically. Moreover, it also opens up new horizons for students. Put simply, a degree in business equips pupils with the ability to examine things beyond a local context, particularly in today’s global economy. This means that students, through a university course, can gain more international perspective and outlook about business than ordinary people can imagine.
In my opinion, however, the best way to learn about business is to enrol in a course at college or university. The reign of business has become fast-paced, challenging, and incessantly evolving, and thereby requiring to develop many transferable skills so as to gain knowledge of the business. For instance, studying a business degree can hone students’ project management capabilities.
Weighing up both sides of the argument, it is reasonable to assume that studying a business degree is utterly essential to learning about business, especially in this modern world.
